Natural (wild-) populations pass the sea buckthorn primarily at the Baltic Sea coast.
Mr H.-J Albrecht is the pioneer of the sea buckthorn breeding. In the result of his work the sea buckthorn varities Frugana, Askola, Hergo, Leikora and Dorana, known meanwhile worldwide, were allowed. You were planted on plantations and others in Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern but also in Italy and Chile. The admittance of the new kinds of Habego and Sirola was carried out in 2003.
In front of 1990 the processing of the berries was carried out to drinks and jam, seed oil was also extracted.
By new enterprises and increasing consumer interest in sea buckthorn products became the processing is more extensive and intensifies (extraction of pulp oil).
International
There is a potential interest in a lasting production and processing of sea buckthorn berries as a contribution to the healthy diet and to the lasting environmental protection.
